International Nature Journaling Week

Friends of Lake Sammamish State Park would like to extend an enthusiastic Thank You to Janice King, of Eastside Seattle Walks, for leading the “Finding Art While Walking” event at the park on Sunday, June 2nd . An atmospheric river may have been on the way, but that didn’t stop a hearty group of folks from joining us to look up, down and all around to find art in nature at Lake Sammamish State Park. In fact, rain drops and mist can even highlight how art in nature is always changing!

Janice led us first around Sunset Beach and partway down the boardwalk to the mouth of Issaquah Creek to highlight naturally occurring art and then down the esplanade to Tibbetts Beach to look at man-made art and found art at the park. She recommends considering light, colors, perspective, texture, repetition, seasons and time of day when you are looking for art around you. You can use your phone camera, a sketch pad or journal, or any art medium to capture what you see.

Missed the walk or wanting more inspiration to find art in your everyday environment or when you are on your next destination vacation? Check out the prompts offered here for International Nature Journaling Week, happening now from June 1 – 7: Nature Journaling Week.

And be sure to check out Janice’s book, “Eastside Seattle Walks,” and website (Eastside Seattle Walks (typepad.com)) to find more than 20 walks you can do locally that highlight the art, nature, history and more all around us.

Thank you, Janice!
